| John named "Top 100 Irish Americans" |
| Mon, May. 22 2006 |
| John was honored by Irish American Magazine in March of this year by being named one of the "Top 100 Irish Americans". An honor to be included with the likes of many internationally known authors, scholars, business people, humanitarians and people in the medical field, as well as former President Bill Clinton!
John is busy as ever and coming up very soon are three appearances at the great Merlefest in N. Wilkesboro, NC, end of April. John will be performing with his old bandmates, Solas, for a Reunion set, as well as a set with the Alison Brown Quartet and a duo set with amazing singer/former Solas-er, Karan Casey. Not to be missed!
End of March saw a weeks' tour in Ireland for some duo shows with the great Mike McGoldrick - talk about two powerhouses. There was also a fabulous Buncrana, Co. Donegal gig with Moonlighting - John's new outing with some of the top lads in Irish music, McGoldrick, Dermot Byrne, Ciaran Tourish and John Joe Kelly. This is one big sound and hopefully there will be a recording in the making in the coming months.
John is seemingly always in the studio for one thing or another but in the coming months, John and Liz Carroll head back in for another round of recording. Sure to follow on in the great path of "In Play". A John Doyle solo recording will be in the works as well hopefully before end of 2008 - keep a lookout for both of these.
Late 2005 and 2006 saw the releases of two very highly acclaimed recordings for John - his second solo project, "Wayward Son" (Compass Records) and "In Play", (Compass Records), his superb duo recording with Liz Carroll. |
